Editor's Note

How we verify a dossier before it ships.

Every named individual or organization in the archive is tied to a primary source — a court filing, an on-the-record statement, a government record obtained through FOIA, or a contemporaneous publication. The two-source rule is non-negotiable: if we cannot produce a second independent record, the dossier does not publish.

Each draft is reviewed by our editorial team of four, then circulated to outside counsel for a legal-clearance pass that focuses on defamation exposure, source-chain integrity, and the safety of named private individuals. The clearance date and reviewing firm appear on every dossier so that downstream citers — a journalist on deadline, a graduate student writing a thesis chapter, a policy analyst at a federal agency — can see the provenance at a glance.

We do not accept paid placements or advertising from any advocacy organization, on either side of the political spectrum, and we have never retracted a dossier across 1,180 published entries in the trailing 28 months. If a fact in a dossier is later corrected, the original text remains visible alongside the correction, dated and signed.

Reader-Funded · No Advertising

The archive runs on $4,200 a month in FOIA litigation and data-vault hosting. Subscribe to keep it open.

We do not accept paid placements or corporate advertising. The free tier remains free — every dossier on this page, every database record, every Cascadia Brief back issue. Paid subscriptions underwrite the courtroom reporting and the storage that keeps 18,400 pages of government records available to researchers who cannot pay.
